What We Provide
While actual financial assistance is limited, help is offered to address other resources needed. Assistance is provided through:
+Prayer: Spiritual support, encouragement and a chance to find God in the circumstances of one’s life.
+Listening: A non-judgmental listening presence.
+Guidance: to name and claim goals and dreams (and imagine ways to move forward toward these goals), as well as guidance in mapping out options for current problems and issues in one’s life.
+Advocacy: Partnering with individuals and standing with them as they pursue options to issues in their lives.
+Referrals: to other SVDP programs and other community organizations.
+Concrete assistance where available: Significant financial assistance is focused on families living in parish boundaries in the Diocese of Fargo and the Diocese of Crookston. If immediate assistance is needed, contact the nearest Catholic church or dial 211.
the Voice of the Poor
The Society of St. Vincent de Paul is concerned not only with alleviating need but also with identifying those structures, societal and legislative, that cause and perpetuate poverty. This mission manifests itself in the Society’s admonition to “End Poverty Through Systemic Change.”
